Prof. Vladimir Benes, DrSc was born on July 30th 1953 in Prague, Czech Republic. Since 1997 he has held the position of Head of Neurosurgery in the Central Military Hospital, Prague and Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery in the 1st Medical Faculty, Charles University.
He is the principal investigator in 22 projects, Grant Agency of the Czech Ministry of Health. He is a co-investigator in 10 projects for various agencies. He has also participated in international trials such as CRASH, STICH, ACST, ISAT, Alkermes, and ARC etc.
From 2003 till 2007 he was the Vice President of the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS). From 2007 to 2011 he was the Chairman of the Training Committee of EANS and since 2011 the President of EANS.
He is also in the Editorial Board of Bolest (Pain) and Editorial Board of Czech and Slovak Neurology and Neurosurgery, Co-Editor of Acta Neurochirurgica (European Affairs), Editorial Board Advances and Technical Standards in Neurosurgery, Adv. Board Zbl. Neurochirurgie (recently Central European J Neurosurgery), Advisory Board of Neurosurgery, Adv. Board of World Neurosurgery and in the Editorial Board of Acta Neurochirurgica.
